Held at the New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC) from 1 to 5 May, the meeting welcomed 1871 delegates in person and a further 323 online. Auckland Convention Bureau helped bring the event to Auckland, working in partnership with Tourism New Zealand’s Business Events team and NZICC.
One of Australasia’s largest specialist medical colleges, ANZCA brought together experts in anaesthesia, pain medicine and perioperative care to exchange knowledge, strengthen professional connections and explore advances in patient care.
The meeting also provided a platform to showcase Aotearoa New Zealand’s medical expertise and perspectives. Māori culture and approaches to cultural safety and health equity were woven through the programme, which included a pōwhiri and a visit to Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Marae.
Supporting the next generation of specialists was another focus. The meeting hosted its largest cohort in ANZCA’s pre-vocational initiative, connecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Māori medical students and doctors with mentors and opportunities within the specialty.
Beyond the scientific programme, delegates experienced Tāmaki Makaurau through activities ranging from sailing on the Waitematā Harbour to local attractions and outdoor experiences.
The event demonstrated how business events in Auckland can bring international expertise together while creating opportunities for knowledge exchange, professional development and lasting connections.
